Gurren Lagann Composite Ver. Ka ( Hajime Katoki)

Up for review is the Gurren Laggan Composite Ver.Ka. This the the main robot from the Gainax anime Tengen Toppa Gurren Laggan.  The show is about a young boy named Simon, who loves to drill and his friend Kamina, who dreams of leaving the underground caves that humanity has been confined to.  The Gurren Laggan is a gattai ( combination) of the small face-shaped robot Laggan( piloted by Simon) and the Gurren, which Kamina captures from the Beastmen who terrorize humans that make it up to the surface. With it they take apart any enemy who stands before them!

Pros
This is all around a nice figure, Hajime Katoki did a great job in making a detailed representation of the Gurren Laggan. You can see some of the mechanical parts of the mecha peeking out from its various joints, ( feet , hands , shoulders).

He also added a tribal paint design , which may not be to the liking of some.  Hajime Katoki has a tendency of adding his own touches to his work that were not in the original designs , just look as his Gundam redesigns. Some people dislike his designs because of this , preferring a much cleaner design that is more faithful to the original source. I am not one of those people, I think Katoki does a great job with his designs. So enjoy more shots of the designs and detail of this figure!!

Anyway, back to the Gurren Lagann, it  comes with three sets of hands: two fists , two hands for holding his boomerangs and two hands for pointing. This guy also include drill attachments for his writsts , which were also a nice touch. Also included is a nice white display stand for posing the Gurren Lagann. He also has two sets of sunglasses for the face , one clear and one black. Best of all this figure comes with a BIG ASS DRILL for performing the Giga Drill Breaker!

Cons

My one disapointment with this figures is  that he cannot hold the Giga Drill Breaker on his own. However, Ban Dai fixes this by including two attachment for the display stand so that you can  proudly display Gurren Lagann doing his signature finisher move.

Verdict
This is a must have for any Gurren Laggan fan! I know some people may be turned off by the tribal symbols that Katoki dicided add to the figure , but they do grow on you.I like it a lot more than the Revoltech version of the Gurren Lagann.  What is more , this figure can be had for cheap. It can be found on eBay and anime-export for about $45  shipped.
