Revoltech - Jason Voorhees

Coming straight from Camp Crystal Lake to your toy shelf, it's Jason Voorhees! Part of Kaiyodo's new Revoltech Sci-fi line, one of cinema's most famous slashers is rendered in every gory detail! Hit the jump and go "ch-ch-ch-ch-ah-ah-ah-ah".

Jason is obviously a horror fan favorite and his iconic hockey mask is worn by thousands of teenagers who think they're too cool to get a real costume at Halloween every year. There have been a lot of high end collectible dolls and figures of him released over the years, but the Revoltech version is comparable to a lot of the NECA offerings in quality and price. I got mine from HobbyLink Japan for around 25.00 + shipping.

Jason comes with all the accessories you see here. The usual Revoltech coin and orange box are included, although his stand accommodates almost all of his accessories other than hands and the spare head. Of course, you could just put them around the stand for more gore. He's got a pitchfork, shovel, saw, pick, two axes and his favorite machete.

There are two masks to wear. Sorry about the darkness in the picture. The one on the left has a cut near the top of the mask.

Jason has an extra gory head as well as a severed bloody head for him to carry around. Also pictured is his weapon holding hand.

Here's the stand, it comes in three pieces and is a snap to put together. It's relatively small while still holding most of the stuff for the figure. I like it as my own shelf space is getting a bit limited at this point.

Blurry pic. Also having some camera issues, but wanted to get a review up. His "normal" face is suitably deformed. I should note that the nameplate that comes with him reads "Jason Voorhees - Friday the 13th (1980)" which is inaccurate. I'm sure all horror fans know, and most of the rest of you might know that Jason was not the killer in the original Friday the 13th. This representation of Jason Voorhees is actually from 1982's Friday the 13th: Part 3. It was the first movie in the series to show Jason wearing his famous hockey mask.

A closer look at his wounded head. The blood is a nice glossy red and the hatchet wound near the top is surprisingly deep. Very nice details on this figure. Even though it's all plastic, they made it look like real cloth and flesh and blood.

My camera can't do justice to the detail packed into this toy. When I upgrade I will load better pics. The hockey masks slide on and off both heads and are held securely by the straps. If the light was better you'd be able to see his eyes behind the mask, a nice and creepy touch.

Jason's goriest accessory is the head of his latest victim. It's a decapitated woman and the detail that went into it is disturbingly cool. On the bottom, you can actually see the muscles, esophagus, and spine details on the bottom.

So what was the alternate head and mask for? For getting bloody revenge on the legend of Camp Crystal Lake of course!

It's not over! He'll be back for increasingly awful sequels and another reboot!

Pros

It's a Revoltech of Jason Voorhees. He's definitely a departure for a Japanese toy. The level of detail is on par with the McFarlane toys, especially the "6 Faces of Madness" line that depicted famous real life killers. On top of that, it has more articulation than your average figure with this detail. Most representations of Jason are of the statue variety and go for $75.00 and up, so this is comparably cheap for under $40.00 depending on where and who you buy from.

Cons

Just because it has the Revoltech brand on the box doesn't mean you should expect crazy articulation. You won't be getting any inverted splits while firing drills-Gurren Lagann style poses. His hips don't move (hips don't lie) very much but his knees and ankles have some flexibility. The arms and shoulders do a decent enough job of getting where you want them and the weapon holding hand has a neat rotating joint. I wish they had put the same joint in the severed head hand's wrist so that it would have a natural hang when you move it around.

Verdict

I recommend this toy for horror fans or even people looking to change it up a bit in their collections. Jason comes with enough accessories to get the job done and the detailing on the figure is remarkable. He's bigger than most mecha Revoltechs and stands out nicely amongst other action figures. I like him a lot and can only hope Revoltech adds a few more horror movie slashers to the line. I'd like to see a Chucky or Leprechaun figure executed at this level just for kicks personally.  Thanks for reading!
