The original Power Rangers series saw a re-release on ABC (owned by Disney) due to the fact that the most recent Sentai show was heavily imbued with Japanese culture , and as such it was thought that it would not translate into a good American Power Rangers show. Along with the new, edited version of the show , Bandai released a new line of Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers Toys: some figures of the original Power Rangers( with some crazy attachments that were never in the show), two versions of the Dragon flute , and the Megazord. Though there were other toys slated for release, as far as I know they have not hit the store shelves.
Pros
As a kid , I always wanted one of the original Megazord toys, but I never got one. For this reason this toy brings a lot of the nostalgia factor to the table. From what the pictures I have seen of the original, this release has a slimmer build. At first I was not a fan of this , since I was hoping that Bandai would release the exact same Megazord as they did in the 90's. However , the this incarnation of the Megazord grew on me.
Rarr! |
Poor Pterodactyl, its only real function is that of a Chestpiece |
The Megazord COULD function without the Pterodactyl , and does not look half bad . |
Cons
The toy lacks detail and seems a bit plain. Other than that, his toy has very limited mobility. You can't really expect much , since this toy is geared towards kids, is price as such. Other than having the legs move, this is the extent of what the arms can do.
Verdict
A cool toy for those who grew up with the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers who don't have 300 bucks to spend on the original. At a price tag of $20-30 , it is worth the price admission for that trip down memory lane.
