Saint Seiya Myth Cloth Review : Unicorn Jabu

Unicorn Gallop!

Jabu, another one of the orphans taken in by the Graude foundation, acquires the Unicorn cloth and returns with it to Japan for the Galaxian wars. In the first round of battle , he faces Andromeda Shun. During this battle he finds it impossible to get near Shun, who is protected by his chains. In the middle of their match Phoenix Ikki appears and steals Sagittarius Cloth that the bronze saint were fighting for. After this chapter , Unicorn Jabu fades into the background of the series along with the other minor bronze saints. He makes a few appearances later on in the series, but does not play a major role in the storyline. It is a little know fact that Masami Kurumad has originally intended for Unicorn Jabu to actually be one of the main bronze saints, along with Seiya , Shun , Shiryu and Hyoga . However, he decided against it since his personality was too similar to Seiya . This did not stop Shiori Teshirogi, the author of Lost Canvas, from making Pegasus Tenma and Unicorn Yato (again , two similar characters) from being the protagonists of her manga.
Who wants tickets to the show? The gun show!

Hit the jump to find out how this minor character compares to his fellow bronze saints.

Pros
First and foremost , he has a beautiful face scuplt.
You will fall in love with my pretty face!

Other than that , he has a good amount of mobility thanks to his V2 body. Bandai also did a good job recreating his armor. They have even included an extra set of hair and tiara , so that he looks more like the Unicorn Jabu from the manga.
 Cons
This figure is actually very light, even for a bronze saint. I was disappointed at the amount of plastic that Bandai used in making this figure. The arm guards and the leg armor are both plastic. These parts in most other figures are made of diecast. On top of the usual pieces that are normally plastic on figures -the headpiece, the belt- it makes the figure seem light.
Another annoyance of this figure is the hair. Although it looks nice, it can be a pain to remove since Bandai decided to make it one piece, instead two like the other figures.

Verdict
This is a pretty good figure , that looses points for overuse of plastic pieces. I understand that for some of the other figures ( Scylla Io comes to mind) Bandai had to use plastic due to the intricacy of the armor's design. However, Unicorn Jabu simple design should have allowed Bandai to use more die cast, like with the other bronze saints. I wish I could like this figure a little more , but I cannot shake the feeling that he should be on par with the main bronze saints' in term of build. On the positive side, he does make a good horsey for Athena, much like he did when he was an Orphan.
Giddyup Jabu!
