Saint Seiya Myth Cloth Review : Andromeda Shun 3rd Armor

The second part of our Friday Saint Cloth Myth Doubleheader, it's the Bronze Saint of the Andromeda Constellation, Shun. Considered the kindest and gentlest of Athena's Saints, Shun proves to be a formidible foe when forced to fight. Unfortunately, most of the Internet looks at Shun and thinks, "I can't wait to write a pornographic story about him and the 12 Gold Saints". It's terrifying. Before you hit the jump, let me assure you that Andromeda Shun is indeed a dude.

The box is your standard Saint Cloth Myth book-style. Once again, glamour shot pic and a full body shot of the toy itself. It's not helping the cause that Shun looks like lady in his head shot. What's even scarier is when you think about the one woman his older brother loved looked like Shun with blonde hair.

The definitive feature of the Andromeda Cloth is its unbreakable chains. These are made of tiny links of glorious metal and they really make the toy stand out on the shelf.

In the show, the chain on Shun's right is used for offense and the one on the left is for defense. He most used attack is the Nebula Chain which can become infinitely long and pass through Gemini Saga's Another Dimension Technique which is an incredible feat. His other main usage of his chains is his Rolling Defense where his left chain surrounds him and protects him from harm. The chains in the show are shown to have some special properties, seemingly able to move on their own and even seek out hidden enemies or guide the Saints on their adventures.

I suppose this shot is as good a time as any to talk about the V3 armors that the Bronze Saints wear. I have the same problem with the V2 armors as well. What is that problem? A swift kick to the balls would extinguish any Saints' Cosmo. All the V1 armors had protection for the Saints' "little Saints". Except for Shun's V1 armor, probably because it was made for a woman. Seriously though, Shun's a dude.

The chain to recreate the Rolling Defense is made of flexible plastic.

Another clip on chain recreates Shun's Nebula Chain or Thunder Wave attack.

One of the overarching themes of Saint Seiya is the relationship between Andromeda Shun and his brother Phoenix Ikki. The two could not be more opposite in nature. Shun is kind and loving while Ikki's Cosmo is fueled by his anger and hatred. Although Ikki generally goes his own way, he is very protective of his brother, bringing all his power to bear when Shun is in trouble. Near the end of the series, there is a revelation in the Hades Arc that throws the brothers into turmoil.

Many times, Shun is the only one who can reason with his fierce older brother. Even though Shun dislikes fighting, he knows that as one of Athena's Saints, he must fight to protect the Earth. With his brother and his fellow Bronze Saints, Shun stands against the forces of Poseidon and Hades.

Closing thoughts, I really enjoy this toy and I think any Saint Seiya fan could do a lot worse than picking up this one. Although it continues the trend of adding plastic it's not as annoying as it was on the Cygnus Hyoga toy. The tiara, shoulder armor and lower leg armor are plastic but I think that's balanced out by the awesome metal chains. I do wish they could have thrown in an alternate face because Shun has a great, show accurate sculpt, but he looks a little bored with everything. Overall though, this might be my personal 2nd favorite Cloth from the V3 Bronze Saints. I'd recommend picking one up if you can!
