Revoltech - Daisuke Jigen

Today we're bringing you Daisuke Jigen of Lupin the 3rd fame! Arguably the famed thief's best friend and constant accomplice, Jigen is a crackshot with a pistol and more than once his sharpshooting has saved Lupin's life. Hit the jump for more!

Per Wikipedia: Daisuke Jigen (次元 大介 Jigen Daisuke?) is Lupin's marksman. He can perform a 0.3-second quick-draw and shoots with amazing accuracy. He is often seen having a used cigarette clenched in between his teeth. He is also proficient in the use of many different firearms, such as machine guns, sniper rifles, and even a PTRS anti-tank rifle.

I'm going to be honest, I'm a huge fan of Lupin the 3rd. To this day I think Castle of Cagliostro is one of the best anime movies ever made and it's 32 years old! My favorite character in the whole series is Daisuke Jigen. Everything about the guy is old school cool. His trademarks are his everpresent hat, battered cigarettes and his Smith & Wesson Model 19 revolver. Whereas Lupin is a goofball and their other companion in crime, the samurai Goemon, is stoic, Jigen is the most normal. He goes along with Lupin's schemes and always proves to be invaluable. Probably my favorite moment with this character is from the aforementioned Castle of Cagliostro. While Lupin goes to save the Princess from the evil Count Cagliostro, Jigen and Goemon hold off a small army of armored ninja butlers (seriously!). The fact that Jigen fights them with a .50 tank buster rifle and the Princess' crown on top of his hat just pushes it over the top.

The Revoltech release of Jigen comes packed with the goodness that we've come to expect from Kaiyodo. They've been trying to branch out from their normal line of robots, presenting Western characters such as the Predator, a xenomorph from Aliens, and Batman. They've also been releasing classic kaiju and iconic anime characters like Lupin, Jigen, Vash the Stampede, Asuka Langley and Rei Ayanami. Out of all of these, Jigen and Lupin are my favorites. The simple, lean design of the characters make them perfect for fun, super poseable figures.

Jigen comes with a host of different hands, heads, and other accessories. He comes with the above brick wall with plug in gun shots. Also included are a tiny Zippo lighter, the tiniest cigarette ever, and a holstered pistol that plugs in under his jacket in the back.

Jigen just plain looks cool. Here he is with one of the optional hands grasping a bent cigarette. The toy is all plastic with Revoltech joints in the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles. With all those ratchety joints, he can contort into a host of poses, aided by either a clear plastic rectangle that clips under his heel, or a clear plastic Revoltech stand with an arm to hold him up.

It's a lot of fun to get Jigen into poses with the Lupin Revoltech.

Admiring the spoils of a job well done!

A well deserved cigarette after a heist!

This is probably my favorite thing about these figures. Kaiyodo understood that half the appeal of these characters isn't that they are being badass all the time. A lot of the charm and continued popularity is because of the lighthearted camaraderie between the characters. I got my Daisuke Jigen from HobbyLink Japan for about 35 bucks shipped. I'm sure you can find a similar or better price on eBay, Amazon, or bigbadtoystore. I definitely recommend picking this Revoltech up if you need a break from robots and I recommend checking out the Lupin the 3rd movies. In the future, I'd like to see Kaiyodo do a Revoltech release for the ronin, Goemon Ishikawa XIII, and Lupin's achilles heel, the femme fatale Fujiko Mine.

Did you see that? He was in a gunfight with an attack helicoptor!
